The Lord Howe Island Experience BOOK HERE
.......from Kerri, Lord Howe Island trip, November 2010
"What do I say? How do I summarise this wonderful week and the amazing experience?
First off – the island really is beautiful. In fact I would say it is the most beautiful place I have ever been in all my travels of the world. I truly felt at peace immediately on arrival and that feeling did not change. Mostly I don’t want to leave a holiday destination asI don’t want to go back to normal life. However, in this case I felt like I did not want to leave Lord Howe Island because I felt like I was leaving part of me behind. I truly felt I belonged there.
I cannot put the splendour of such a majectic place in words – the colour of the water, the starry skys, the mountains, the kentia plams, the bird life, the views and the quietness and silence.
The experience of us 5 all being together – what a motley crew we made up!! A cancer battling wonder woman. Her friends – one a non yogi with a wicked sense of humour and the other just happy to be there - the newby doctor who fitted in perfectly - and of course our teacher – you Lyn.
To add to this, what a bunch of different experiences we shared – laughter, tears, massages, walks, snoring, snorkelers, fish eating, moo moo wearers, an accident creating make shift hospital interns. Last but not least, a group of 5 women sharing themselves as only they know how!
Thank you for a wonderful week."
Lord Howe Island, New South Wales, is 600 km east of the NSW coast of Australia. Lord Howe is regarded as the most beautiful island in the Pacific. It is the closest island getaway to Sydney and is less than two hours fly time. It is only 1.5 hours from Brisbane. Being one of just four island groups to be inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List for its global significance of natural beauty and heritage.
It is a timeless
paradise. The pace is relaxed, however there are plenty of activities and adventures to choose from. Unspoiled, uncrowded beaches - with perfect golden sands - entice surfers and swimmers.
The crystal clear turquoise waters of the lagoon is bordered by the world's most southerly coral reef. At Neds Beach you can access some of the best snorkelling right off the beach. At North Bay you can snorkel and be almost immediately amidst colourful tropical and sub-tropical fish, turtles and other marine life. It truly is awesome. You can also head further off-shore to scuba dive in world-class sites. The water is so clean and clear, it's like swimming in an aquarium.
November/December offers an amazing array of migrating birds and their new hatchlings. Flowering plants and trees add beauty to the island at this time of year and the water is so beautifully warm. The weather at this time more settled with less wind.
For adventurers, there are bushwalks and more strenuous hikes, including Mt Gower, rated as one of the world's best day walks.
To set foot on Lord Howe Island is to escape to a pristine environment.
